FSHP 2018 Political Action Committee Year End Review

FSHP PAC

Thank you to all our present and future PAC Contributors!

The goal of the FSHP PAC is to provide campaign dollars to legislators who are pharmacy friendly AND willing to advocate legislatively on behalf of pharmacy issues.

We advocate legislatively for the future of pharmacy:

  • Through expansion of pharmacist jobs by allowing us to practice at the top of our license
  • Pharmacists to be acknowledged as health care providers
  • Updated Physician-Pharmacist Collaborative Practice Legislation
  • Improved Pharmacy Technician roles and jobs
  • Transparency in drug pricing

2018 Legislative Successes:

Representative Cord Byrd, our 2018 legislator of the Year, will again sponsor our Collaborative Practice Legislation in 2019.
We made it through the House last year and now on to the Senate!!!

The Class III institutional pharmacy license was approved allowing permits to be created for hospital-affiliated institutional pharmacies, including central distribution facilities.

FSHP: A look back at 2018

FSHP Legal Counsel and lobbyist, Larry Gonzalez, JD, retired this year after being with FSHP for more than 20 years. We sent Larry off to retirement with an FSHP Honorary Lifetime Membership.

Our new FSHP lobbyist and General Counsel is Joseph Salzberg, JD, of Gray Robinson Firm.

Gray Robinson is a top 5 lobby firm in Florida with over 300 attorneys and consultants and 14 offices throughout the state.  Joseph immediately got to work and provided a campaign giving plan for our PAC. The plan involved supporting Bipartisan legislators likely to win AND be sympathetic to our issues.

We supported 15 legislators and of those 14 (93%) won their general election seats!

Our PAC contributed over $40,000 in the 2018 elections. Thank you to all donors!!!

Joseph set up meetings with legislators and coordinated legislative visits with constituents delivering the PAC checks while discussing pharmacy issues.

Special thanks to Dean Gary Levin of Larkin College of Pharmacy, Christian Calderon, Cheryl Elton, Jeff Bush, Mark Mikhael, and Stephanie Peshek who volunteered and did that.

Moving into 2019…

The PAC’s goal will be to raise over $50,000 in funds for legislators that support the profession of pharmacy.

Our request is this:

Become a PAC supporter today! Your future depends on it.
