FSHP Events Are Changing https://www.fshp.org/news/667567/ https://www.fshp.org/news/667567/ We are changing how we list our events for a better experience!

In 2023 FSHP started using LecturePanda, our new learning management system. Most of you have already used our LecturePanda system for claiming CE (with near real-time reporting) and told us how much better it is.

Moving forward, we are transitioning to using LecturePanda for registration for all CE events.

Previously, attendees would have to register on the FSHP website and then again in LecturePanda to claim CE. This new method only requires 1 registration and will provide automatic access to any event materials.

During this transition the CE events that were previously listed will still be found on our "old calendar" while new events are being added to our new CE Events & Programs list.

Related Navigation Links

The navigation on the website has been updated to assist you in finding what you are looking for. We recommend becoming familiar with this new layout now, but you can always reach out to FSHP staff for assistance.

CE Events & Programs Non-CE Events & Programs Networking & Social Opportunities Exhibitor & Sponsor Opportunities

Events & Education | the new "homepage for events and education"

Old Calendar | includes previously listed CE events, social events, and exhibitor opportunities

New Searchable CE Events & Programs | where newly added Regional CE events are listed

Non-CE Education Resources | professional development and recordings

Networking & Social Events | filters the "old calendar" for social events

Exhibitor Opportunities | filters the "old calendar" for exhibitor opportunities

NOTE: the "old calendar" will still be used for social events and exhibitor opportunities

What improvements can you expect from this change?

Searchable

Our new CE Events & Programs list is searchable! (preview below)

You can use the topics on the left side to quickly filter the event list or search for a specific word/phrase in the search bar.
NOTE: Search spelling has to match exactly.

the new searchable CE Events & Programs catalog

Visual Navigation

Now there is a more visual way to navigate the related pages (clickable images at the top or bottom of the pages), making it easier to find what you are looking for.

Regional Events

You will also be able to find Regional Society events listed on that Regional Society's page.

Only Register Once

As we already mentioned, you will only have to register for an event once.

License Verification

LecturePanda will verify your license number in real-time when you register, preventing reporting errors.

Immediate Access

You will have immediate access to any event "Materials" (which can include links for virtual events, handouts, on-demand content, etc.). No more waiting for someone to send you what you need.

Confirmation

You will also receive a confirmation email that contains a link to access the "Materials" and claim CE. You can also access the event by going back to the event listing (if you are on the same device used to register, it will likely to remember you).

Add To Calendar

The confirmation email also includes links at the bottom of the email to add the event to your calendar, to help you plan accordingly.

Reminders

You will receive reminder emails leading up to the event (we all need little reminders these days) and to claim your CE after the event.

We apologize for any confusion this transition may cause and appreciate your patience as we work to make this improvement for you.

Changes to FSHP Membership https://www.fshp.org/news/649674/ https://www.fshp.org/news/649674/ Upcoming FSHP Membership Changes

Starting October 1, there will be some changes to FSHP membership options.

  1. Changing from fixed membership cycles to "rolling" cycles
  2. Adding options for 2 year memberships
  3. Increases to membership dues

Membership Changes TimelineRolling Cycles

Previously, all members either expired on January 1 or July 1. To leverage the strengths of some of our more modern systems, we are moving to "rolling" cycles. This means...

For new members:
When a new member signs up their expiration date will be exactly 1 year from the date they signed up, or 2 years if they choose that option (see details below).

For existing members:
Your expiration date will remain the same UNLESS your membership expires. If you renew after your membership expires, your new expiration date will be based on the date you renew.

If you renew prior to your expiration date, your membership will just be extended by 1 or 2 years (expiration date will remain the same month and day).

2 Year Membership Renewals

Over the years, many members have requested the option to renew for 2 years at a time (one less thing to have to remember to do each year). Also, since some leadership positions include multi-year involvement, this makes it a little easier to make sure their membership doesn't expire mid-term.

Starting October, you will start to see a 2 year membership option. Of course, this is optional. One year memberships are still available.

NOTE: We already have auto-renewal options that you will continue to see. The auto-renew option may be a better option for long-term members dedicated to keeping their membership current.

Dues Increases

As with every other industry these days, costs across the board have increased dramatically in the last few years. To help keep FSHP in financial stability for years to come, we are increasing most (but not all) membership dues.

It should be noted that FSHP has rarely increased membership dues in the past and we do not take it lightly. However, we want to ensure we can continue to serve our members to the best of our ability.

NOTE: The Student membership dues remains unchanged and the Technician membership dues will actually decrease, in efforts to better support our Pharmacy Technicians.

FSHP Membership Dues Rates (starting October 2023)

  • Active Pharmacists:
    • $199 for 1 year
    • $375 for 2 year (5% discount)
  • Associates: $199
  • Joint (spouse/spouse) Pharmacists: $325
  • Retired Pharmacists: $99
  • Graduate: $69
  • Residents, Fellows, New Practitioners: $69
  • New Graduate: 6 months complimentary (unchanged)
  • Students: $10 (unchanged)
  • Pharmacy Technicians: $49 (decrease)
  • Retired Pharmacy Technicians: $24 (decrease)

ATTN: January Cycle Members

For those currently in the January Cycle (expiration date January 1), if you want to save on this year's renewal by getting the old rate you can renew in September. The new rates take effect in October.

The renewal window for the January Cycle doesn't open until September, so you will not see an option to renew until September.

NOTE: The 2 year membership option will not be available until October, so if you want to take advantage of that option you will need to wait until October.

Group Membership/Discount

The Group Membership and Group Discount rates remain unchanged.

You can learn more about our group rates here: https://www.fshp.org/page/GroupMembership

USP Compounding General Chapters <795> and <797> Final Revisions are now available! https://www.fshp.org/news/623261/ https://www.fshp.org/news/623261/ Updated files:

Below is the message sent out earlier this month by USP Healthcare Quality & Safety...

We wish to inform you that the final revised USP Compounding General Chapters <795> and <797> are now published and available for download in the USP-NF 2023, Issue 1 through the online USP Compounding Compendium. Please note that the USP Compounding Compendium migrated to a new online platform on November 1, 2022, and will no longer be available in PDF format.

The USP Compounding Expert Committee (CMP EC) voted to extend the date on which these chapters become official to November 1, 2023, to allow for increased flexibility and engagement for adoption. USP encourages early implementation of these revised standards.

About the Revisions

The revisions to <795> and <797> reflect advancements in science and practice to help ensure quality compounded preparations, promote public health, and protect patients and healthcare workers. The standards also incorporate extensive stakeholder feedback. The USP CMP EC reviewed over 1,400 comments from healthcare practitioners, regulators, academicians, and industry. For more history of the development of these revisions, please see previous announcements on the USP website here.

We are committed to supporting your understanding and implementation of these chapters. Below please find a list of resources, open forums, and education you may find helpful.

New Pain Management Resources from PAMI https://www.fshp.org/news/588844/ https://www.fshp.org/news/588844/

New Pain Management Resources from PAMI

Pain order panel templates and OTC patient education materials

The Pain Assessment and Management Initiative (PAMI) at the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville has new pain-related resources which may be of value to your organization.

ED-ALT Order Panels for Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Use

The PAMI ED Alternatives to Opioids Project is funded by the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration to develop and implement alternatives to opioids for pain management in the emergency department setting.

The program developed electronic medical record order panels currently in use at UF Health Jacksonville and UF Health North in the emergency department. The panels offer a one stop place to quickly access  orders for four common pain conditions (low back pain, headache/migraine, renal colic, musculoskeletal pain) utilizing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches. The panels are a comprehensive list of suggested treatment options allowing the provider to customize treatment for the patient.

Visit the PAMI ED-ALT webpage to download order panel guidance and access additional resources.

Over-the-Counter (OTC) Pain Medicine Patient Education

Navigating OTC pain medication products can be confusing for patients who are met with hundreds of products on pharmacy and store shelves. Many products which were previously available by prescription are now available OTC. The PAMI team developed a patient education brochure to provide an overview of popular topical products, including dosing and precaution information. Physician and pharmacist guidance was consulted in the development of the handout. View the complete discharge planning toolkit and download the topical OTC educational handout.

The PAMI OTC handouts contain:

  • Topical agents

    • Lidocaine

    • Diclofenac

    • Counterirritants (IcyHot, Biofreeze, Tiger Balm)

You can also access our pain management and dosing guide along with other pain-related resources for free download on the PAMI website.

To contact PAMI, email pami@jax.ufl.edu or call us at 904.244.4986. Stay connected with us on Facebook, and LinkedIn for our latest updates as well.

Legal & Regulatory Updates https://www.fshp.org/news/588384/ https://www.fshp.org/news/588384/

October 2021 Board of Pharmacy Update

Major topics discussed and presented to the Board of Pharmacy during the October 13th meeting include:

USP 795

  • The definitions of simple versus complex compound are not included in the revised guidelines. The USP 795 also required a designated person with oversight and accountability over these standards at your practice.
  • Master-formulary definition under <795> differs from that of <797>
    • Per <795>, staff must document and log for any compound, whereas there is an exclusion in <797> for patient-specific or single compounded medications.

USP 797

  • The low, medium and high-risk level of compounding have been reclassified as “Category I – III” compounding based on where the product is compounded. Category 3 allows up to 180 days beyond-use date, but additional stability and sterility data from the site are essential to claim this.
  • The definition of immediate use is expanding to 4 hours. Written standards of practice must contain verbiage regarding prevention of contamination. Product must be discarded if not administered within 4 hours.

USP 795 and USP 797 are open for comment. Click here to see the documentation for rationale. FSHP will be collecting comments to give to ASHP for submission to USP in December. Please send all comments to Tamekia ( tamekia@fshp.org) between now and November 30th. Thank you to Nisha Mathew, PharmD, BCPS, CPh for reporting on this important issue.

White Bagging/Brown Bagging

The Board of Pharmacy continues to hear discussion surrounding patient safety issues with White/Brown Bagging. There were discussions regarding rules that can be made to protect patient safety.

Legislative Session January 2022

The Florida legislative session is just around the corner. Legislative days are January 18 and 19. We will be in Tallahassee. If you want to join us, please send an e-mail to Tamekia Bennett ( Tamekia@fshp.org) to let us know. We need to set up appointments with our legislators prior to attending. There will be no virtual meetings.

Our top legislative issues are White/Brown bagging and a 340B Parity Bill. We are collaborating with Florida Hospital Association and Safety Net Hospitals, respectively. More collaborations are in the works.

Happy Pharmacy Technician Day to the backbone of the pharmacy!

Thank you for your invaluable contributions to patient health, safety, and as an integral part of the healthcare team. It’s a day for pharmacy technicians to reflect on their careers and realize the impact they’ve had on patients and their pharmacy colleagues. Pharmacy technicians perform vital duties in support of pharmacists.

Pharmacies could literally not run without our technicians, and they deserve more than a day of appreciation for all of their tireless work! So on today, October 19th, let us celebrate the women and men who make our profession as great as it is – the pharmacy technician.

Task Force Report Calls for New Grassroots Effort to Build Vaccine Confidence https://www.fshp.org/news/570208/ https://www.fshp.org/news/570208/ Task Force Report Calls for New Grassroots Effort to Build Vaccine Confidence

New Report Aims to Build Confidence Amongst Communities for COVID-19 Vaccines.

A new report from the Get the Medications™ Right Task Force has been released entitled "Building Vaccine Confidence in the Health Neighborhood." In the report, the Task Force stated:

To spare ongoing suffering and death amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it is crucial to get as many people vaccinated as possible in the United States and worldwide. Given that so many Americans remain hesitant about being vaccinated, it is also critical to boosting their confidence in the vaccines.

In order to boost confidence for the vaccines and beat COVID-19 within our communities, the Task Force asks that the FSHP community share the exciting information from the report (linked at the bottom of this article) and also share any success stories we have pertaining to COVID-19 vaccines.

Send all success stories to FSHP@FSHP.org

Together, we can WIN the fight against COVID in all of our communities!

FSHP Legal & Regulatory Update | March 2021 https://www.fshp.org/news/556803/ https://www.fshp.org/news/556803/ FSHP L & R Updates

March 2021

Legislative Updates

The Legislative Session began on March 2nd  and our virtual Florida Pharmacists Legislative Days will be held March 9 th  and 10th. However, nothing in this pandemic is normal and therefore we will be holding virtual visits with legislators through the end of April.

This legislative session FSHP will be focusing on four topics of concern/interest to FSHP.

  • Remote Technician Dispensing
  • Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) Reform
  • Immunization
  • HIV pre-exposure and post exposure prophylaxis

Here’s a brief description of each:

Remote Technician Dispensing

Named Telehealth, but actually is promoting technician dispensing without a pharmacist on the premises.  One “virtual” pharmacist to three technicians on site at three different pharmacies.

Immunizations  - Under the PREP Act, an Executive Order approved the following (Once the pandemic is over, the PREP act will likely expire):

    • Certified Pharmacists may immunize children 3 years and up
    • Certified Technicians may immunize
    • CDC and Advisory panel to determine immunizations

There are five bills addressing immunizations. FSHP supports all given by the PREP act and also supports new immunization ratio of 1 pharmacist to 3 pharmacy interns.

PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Managers)  - There are 4 bills this year:

    • Prescription Drug Coverage/Pharmacy and PBMs SB 390 and HB 1155
    • Medicaid Pharmacy Benefit Savings HB SB 1306 and HB 1043

Anti-retroviral Drugs

    • SB 928 and HB 607
    • Allows pharmacists to order HIV testing
    • Authorizes pharmacist to order and dispense pre-exposure and post-exposure HIV prophylaxis under certain circumstances
