Important Information from ASHP Regarding Residency Funding

Ask Congress to Protect Funding for Pharmacy Residency Programs

TAKE ACTION

We need your help to protect funding for pharmacy residency programs.

Arbitrary and inconsistent penalties imposed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) are putting residency funding in jeopardy.

ASHP recently asked CMS to stop threatening funding related to this issue, and provide technical assistance so that pharmacy residency programs know what they need to do to comply with the agency's cost accounting processes.

During our Legislative Day activities in September, ASHP members asked their congressional representatives to urge the CMS Administrator to address this issue. We need your help to ensure that every member of Congress knows the importance of pharmacy residency programs to the healthcare system.

Here's what you can do:

  1. Send an email to your members of Congress. ASHP has provided a template that outlines the issue and highlights the importance of pharmacy residency programs as a tool to develop pharmacists' patient care skills. Please personalize the email with examples of the ways pharmacy residents contribute to the healthcare team at your organization and how the loss of federal funding for these programs would affect patient care.

  2. Ask colleagues at your practice site to join you. Every voice counts!

  3. Brief your organization's administration and Government Relations staff on the issue.

Please contact your members of Congress today and ask them to protect pharmacy residency programs.

Thank you in advance for your efforts!
