Trump Directs Azar To Work With Florida Governor On Drug Importation Proposal

Politico (5/6, Glorioso) reports that on Monday, President Trump directed HHS Secretary Alex Azar “to work with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on the state’s drug import plan, according to Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.).”

The article says, “DeSantis has touted Trump’s support for his drug import plan without public confirmation from the president.” Gaetz’s description of the “meeting suggests the president is willing to overcome objections to the program from his advisers, including Azar.”

The piece adds that Azar reportedly “listed several concerns about the program, including the possibility that manufacturers might limit prescription drug supplies if they don’t make enough money.” He was also worried about ensuring “the safety of source materials.”

The Washington Times (5/6, Howell) reports that according to the White House, “Trump urged Mr. DeSantis at the Oval Office to work with Health Secretary Alex Azar on options ‘to reduce drug prices in a safe way for Floridians.’”
