Management of Pediatric Toxic Ingestions                                                         

·         Identify commonly encountered medications or toxins

  • Discuss emerging trends in pediatric toxic ingestions
  • Recommend treatment of toxic and non-toxic ingestions
  • Differentiate antidotes used in emergent conditions of poisoned patients

Technician Objectives

Pediatric Emergency Medicine Management                                        

  • Review the clinical pathway in treating pediatric diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
  • Compare and contrast pediatric therapies available for rapid sequence intubation (RSI)
  • Evaluate the various algorithms for pediatric advanced life support (PALS)
  • Discuss the similarities and differences of vasopressors, as well as the situations suitable for their use

Technician Objectives

  • Review the clinical pathway in treating pediatric diabetic ketoacidosis
  • Discuss the importance of accurate and complete medication reconciliation for patients with DKA
  • Review medications utilized in rapid sequence intubation (RSI)
  • Assess preparations for pediatric advanced life support (PALS)

Finding ECMO: Just Keep Pumping                                                              

  • Explain the role of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in the management of pediatric patients with cardiac and respiratory failure
  • Discuss the management of heparin induced thrombocytopenia in ECMO
  • Describe the effect of ECMO on dosing and pharmacokinetics of select medications

Technician Objectives

  • Define extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
  • Identify anticoagulation medications used in ECMO
  • Recognize medications that require dosage adjustments for ECMO patients

Pediatric Malignant Hyperthermia                                          

Pharmacist Objectives (This presentation is not accredited for pharmacy technicians)

·         Discuss the background and clinical features of Malignant Hyperthermia in pediatrics

·         Describe acute emergency management of Malignant Hyperthermia

·         Review the procedure for approaching treatment of Malignant Hyperthermia at Lee Health

·         Demonstrate proper reconstitution for emergent use
