Larry A. Gonzalez, J.D.

Lawrence "Larry" Gonzalez is a native of Daytona Beach, Florida. He has been a close observer of state government as a resident of Tallahassee since 1963.

Larry received his Bachelor of Science in Business and his Juris Doctor degree from Florida State University in 1968 and 1973 respectively. As an undergraduate he held the offices of Student Body President and President of the Student Senate and was selected for membership in the FSU Hall of Fame and Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honorary.

Upon graduation from Law School and admission to the Florida Bar, he was selected as the first Executive Director of the newly created Florida Commission on Ethics in 1974, charged with enforcing Florida’s Code of Ethics for Public Officers and Employees.

In 1988 Larry was named Secretary of Professional Regulation by Governor Bob Martinez. In this capacity he served as a member of the Governor’s "Little Cabinet” and headed the agency responsible for regulating 1.2 million professional licensees in the State of Florida including pharmacists and all other health care licensees. The Division of Medical Quality Assurance was established during his tenure at the Department of Professional Regulation.

Larry practices in the Law Office Lawrence A. Gonzalez LLC, a firm he established in 2006. His governmental service also includes 27 years of service in the United States Army Reserve.

He is a Vietnam veteran, recipient of the Bronze Star Medal and currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Retired.
